Summer Season Tentative Start Dates

March 4, 2024

Thank you all once again for your patience and for hanging in there with us. We apologize for any confusion caused this month as lots of things reopened and we worked to figure out our plans.

The governor announced this week that Phase 3 reopening would start on July 1st. This is slightly later than we anticipated and we need to give our facilities time to prepare for us to use them. So we are delaying summer sign ups through July 1st and have set a tentative summer season start date of July 15/16th.

Nothing is business as usual anymore with our facilities and we are working diligently to get permits and contracts lined up now that some have come back online. The offerings that you see on our website are what we have planned right now. Plans may change as we get more details from facilities and we will post those updates here as soon as we have them.

We are determining which additional measures will be required this summer season to ensure the health and safety of our players, umpires, and staff (e.g. sanitization, face masks, etc.). Those rule changes will be made public as soon as we have finalized them here in the next few days.

For team captains, we have been hard at work upgrading our roster system to help you manage your teams more easily. Here is a summary of the changes you can expect when you next log in:

We thank you again for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions, please contact your local commissioner or email us at info@kickballhamptonroads. Look for regular updates over the course of this next week as our plans for summer season finalize. Stay well!

Summer Season Update regarding COVID-19

June 3, 2020

To all of our beloved players, we are now finally at a point where meaningful season planning is starting to make sense. With our region entering Phase 2 reopening this Friday, June 5th, organized practices are now expected to be permissible and there is more hope on the horizon.

Our understanding from city officials is that no field rentals will take place until at least Phase 3 is started. The governor's office has not yet predicted when Phase 3 might begin but based on the time period that Phase 1 lasted, it seems reasonable to guess it will be around the end of June. This means that the earliest we anticipate being able to host games is July 1st. Our staff is ready to roll when we get the go-ahead, but we also need a little time to get everything set up and ready. So the actual start dates for summer seasons may be somewhat later than July 1st. At this point, it's too early to tell either way.

When we are able to resume play, we will do so with a safety-first mentality. This will likely require some changes to how our games operate. We will communicate those changes and requirements for players to everyone as soon as we are able to determine what is necessary. Thank you all in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

To accommodate this latest change in planned schedule, we are extending the summer sign up period for our standard rate of $55 per player through Monday, June 22nd. We will post more updates as we have more information.

Thank you all for your patience and for hanging in there with us. Look for more updates in the coming days and weeks. Stay well!

Reconciling Spring Season Payments

April 22, 2020

To all of our faithful players, thank you all for your patience as we continue to work out how to manage our league in this new business and recreation environment that we find ourselves in. Like many small businesses and most social sports leagues across the nation, we have expenses already paid for our spring season that we cannot readily recoup with its cancellation. For that reason and because we know many of you do intend to play for us once it is again possible, we are automatically crediting all paid players towards a future season.

Here are the options we can offer to players who already paid for their spring season registration:

Currently, we still plan to operate a summer season. Those sign ups are scheduled to open on May 4th. We understand that these are uncertain times and many players will be hesitant to sign up if the summer season stands a chance of cancellation like the spring season. The summer sign up period will end on June 11th, after the governor's current order has expired. Rest assured, if you register for the summer season and the season is cancelled, we will shift credits forward once again.

We thank you again for your patience and understanding. We will do our best to keep you informed of any future schedule changes that may become necessary. Please stay safe and well.

Spring Season Cancellation due to COVID-19

April 2, 2020

With the governor's order on Monday to stay at home through June 10th, our spring season is effectively cancelled. While this news is very sad for us, we understand the necessity to protect the wellbeing of our community.

We are actively working on a plan right now for how to most effectively handle the monies paid to the league for this season. Look for more detailed communication to come in the next few days. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new territory.

Regarding Kick-A-Palooza, originally scheduled for May 1-3, we are currently attempting to reschedule for another weekend this fall but have not finalized the date yet. Expect more details on that event to come out in the next few days as well.

COVID-19 does not discriminate in its spread, and that includes players in our own league who have fallen ill to the virus. We hope that all of you that are well stay well, those who are ill recover quickly, and those who are indirectly impacted by this pandemic find the support that you need. If you know of someone in our social sports community who is in trouble, please reach out. Contact us via email, Facebook, or whatever works for you. We need each other now more than ever, even if we have to remain at least six feet apart.

Spring Season Delays from COVID-19

March 24, 2020

After taking some time to carefully sift through all of the verbiage in the governor's executive order yesterday, it is now clear that our spring season cannot legally start until at least April 24th. This amounts to a 3-4 week delay and will require considerable rework of our planned schedules. Still, a meaningful spring season with adjusted dates currently still appears possible even with such a delay.

As you all know by now, all plans are subject to change. We will update you again if more restrictions are put in place or the current restrictions are extended. Otherwise, look for preparations to begin (in the virtual world) around April 2nd. Thank you for hanging in there with us.

It's worth saying again that we hope that all of you and your loved ones are well. If you know of a player in trouble, please reach out. Contact us via email, Facebook, or whatever works for you. Even with physical distance, we still want to remain connected and support our teammates and fellow players.

Spring Season Update regarding COVID-19

March 23, 2020

As many others have stated before us, we are in unprecedented times. We hope that all of you and your loved ones are well, in every aspect of the word. If you know of a player in trouble, please reach out. Contact us via email, Facebook, or whatever works for you. Even with physical distance, we still want to remain connected and support our teammates and fellow players.

Regarding our spring season, there are still many more questions than answers. We are sifting through the ever-changing wave of information at same time as all of you. We are also in discussion with other leagues across the country on what to do. Throughout all of this, we are doing our best to make informed decisions. This requires patience and we thank you all for your patience thus far. We will need more of it for sure in the days to come.

At this point, the only official delay we have received is from the City of Virginia Beach, which has closed athletic fields through April 13th. However, we anticipate other cities and private organizations to soon close their fields at least through that date as well. And so we at least anticipate a delayed start to our spring season. That delay could grow to as much as six weeks. In the case of a season delay, we would adjust schedules to still have a meaningful season. When facilities do lift their field closures, KLOHR will be ready to implement necessary measures to ensure player safety and mitigate such risks. We also know everyone understands adjustments will be necessary to allow for social distancing, and are confident everyone will be more than cooperative.

If circumstances prolong beyond that and cause us to lose more weeks of play than we can reasonably recover, the season may be cancelled. We are still many weeks from that decision and have not yet worked out the details of such a scenario. Again, we ask for your continued patience as we process information and adjust course accordingly.

(Regarding Kick-A-Palooza, currently scheduled for May 1-3, we are meeting this week to discuss options. A final decision will be made by March 31st.)

Sunny skies and brighter days are on the horizon, and KLOHR is looking forward to seeing each of you as soon as it is possible. We consider you part of our family, and so we pray you remain safe and well throughout this ordeal.
